Q. How is the dripless rustproofing at Auto Edge different from the oil sprays at other places?

A. Auto Edge Appearance Centre's  dripless rustproofing is the highest quality rustproofing your can choose for your vehicle and unlike oil sprays from our competition our rust protection will not drip off leaving your vehicle unprotected.  Our rust proofing is a permanent application, it will not crack, chip or peel, it does not harden but instead "sets up tacky" and will remain flexible keeping your vehicle constantly protected.   It repels water and has a low viscosity that allows it to build film on vertical surfaces and for seam penetration into areas with metal to metal overlap without running off.  We believe it's the most effective rustproofing on the market at protecting you vehicle

Q. What is undercoating and why is it important?

A. Undercoating is the process of protecting the vulnerable underside of a vehicle using a tough durable coating that seals this highly exposed area away from the damaging effects of salt, stones, gravel and dirt. Our propitiatory undercoating formula is a one time application that won't drip off, crack, chip or peel and it also has a rust inhibitor that can stop or slow down the progression of any rust you may already have on your vehicle. Additionally it also provides a sound barrier that dampens noise and vibrations so you enjoy a quieter ride

Q. What is rustproofing?

A. The term rustproofing refers to rust-protection of a vehicle's body panels. Corrosion can start in the folds, seams and spot welds that are common in the recessed areas of a vehicle's body panels. Auto Edge's rustproofing material has a low viscosity which allows it to build a nice vertical film on inner body panels and to get into seams and and into areas where there are metal to metal overlap.

Q. I've heard and read that new vehicles don't rust like older vehicles so they don't need to be rustproofed?

A. Although manufacturers have made strides to make new vehicles more rust resistant, new cars do in fact rust.  Galvanized steel is the material that more and more manufacturers are using to achieve this goal.  Galvanized steel when unmanipulated is very resistant to corrosion but the problem arises when the metal is formed, bent, cut, drilled and welded during the manufacturing process, these processes often compromise the galvanization layer of the metal leaving the vehicle vulnerable to corrosion.  We've had many new and late model vehicles come in that look perfect on the ground but when we put it on our lift a whole other story is revealed.  Below are pictures of a 2017 pickup truck that's only a few months old and has only a couple thousand miles on it, this vehicle looks like a brand new vehicle (which it pretty much is) when it drove in and you'll even notice there's still a tag on one of the components in the first picture indicating how new it is.

Q. Is it worth applying rust protection to a used car that may already have some rust on it?

A. Yes it is, our rustproofing and undercoating both have a rust inhibitor that will either stop or dramatically slow down the spread of existing rust.  We have many new and returning customers that buy a used car and bring it in just for that reason.

Q. Will my car smell like chemicals because of the rustproofing?

A.  There may be a slight rustproofing smell during the first few drives after your car is rustproofed but it will dissipate quickly the more the vehicle is driven.

Q.  Will you put holes in my vehicle?  I'm worried about voiding my warranty.

A.  No it is not necessary to put holes in your vehicle to thoroughly protect it, we use specialized low pressure guns (low pressure for a controlled spray) and wands to reach deep into every crevice and fold, utilizing the factory drain holes located throughout your vehicle to get into all the critical, hard to reach areas of your vehicle's body.  We spray front, rear quarter panels and fenders, wheel arches and liners, rocker panels, door posts and pillars, doors, trunk lid, tailgate, engine compartment and hood.

Q.  Will your rustproofing damage my vehicle's rubber seals, weather stripping and windshield wipers?

A.  No it will not and as a matter of fact it is one of the many reasons new and used dealers and fleet managers like using us instead of our competition for their rustproofing.  Most rustproofing applications will damage a vehicle's seals, weather stripping and wipers over time by drying them out so it is important to be careful when choosing a shop to do your rustproofing and that they use high quality materials.

Q. Will it make my vehicle messy, do I need to get my car washed after it's rustproofed?

A. We wash ever vehicle after we spray it to ensure there is no over spray on the outside body panels or windows, your vehicle will look as good if not better than when you arrived.

Q. What are the benefits of rustproofing my vehicle?

A.  There are 5 main benefit to rustproofing.

  1. It helps to extend the life of your vehicle by protecting important vehicle components from rusting and breaking down. The metal parts of a vehicle that have never been rustproofed will break down much faster than one that have been rust protected possibly reducing the vehicle's usable life..

  2. Keeps your vehicle looking it's best, rust is unsightly and it will ruin the appearance of any vehicle, a rust free vehicle will always be more attractive than one with rust.

  3. Keeps you and anyone riding in your vehicle safer, rust weakens metal components, many of these components are structural in nature which can become dangerous in a crash or even in daily driving if a part fails. A good analogy would be termites eating away at the structural beams of your home, at some point that beam will become weaker and possibly fail.

  4. Reduces cost of vehicle ownership, unprotected metal parts can corrode and fail and will need to be fixed or replaced, rustproofing can be a fraction of the repair costs saving you time and money.

  5. Increases resale value. Side by side a rust free vehicle will sell for more money than one with rust on it, it's not just more aesthetically pleasing but will also signal to the potential buyer that you took care of the vehicle while you owned it and cared enough about to protect it.

Q. Do I have to come in for a yearly respray?

A. No, unlike oil sprays you won't need to come in once or twice a year for resprays.  Our application is permanent and the only thing we recommend is coming in every two years for an inspection/respray of the high impact areas where the material may get rubbed off especially during the winter months.  Below are pictures of a 2008 CRV that we were about to do our 2 year inspection/respray, we've rustproofed it since it was purchased and it's come in every 2 years for an inspection, notice there is no rust on the undercarriage and also notice how well the undercoating has held up and protected the undercarriage since the last time it was sprayed 2 years ago
